Read·See the West Season One Concludes in Meishan, Sichuan, with 14 Works Celebrating Hometowns in Poetry

Meishan, Sichuan, October 26, 2024 – The first season of the Read·See the West nationwide reading promotion event concluded in Meishan, Sichuan, on Friday evening. The event, themed Hometowns in Poetry, showcased 13 outstanding works and one popular work. Reciters from12 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in western China gathered in the hometown of Su Dongpo, the renowned poet and essayist, to share their love for their hometowns through poetry.

The event featured a diverse array ofperformances, including recitations, dramatic readings, and musical interpretations of poems that captured the unique beauty and cultural heritage of the western regions. The works explored themes of nature, history, tradition, and the everyday lives of people in the west,offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of life in this diverse region.

This event is not just about reading and appreciating poetry, said a representative from the organizing committee. It’s about fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the cultural heritage of the west and promoting a sense of community among people from different regions.

Theevent also saw a handover ceremony between the Sichuan Provincial Library and the Chongqing Library. This signifies that the Chongqing Library will be the main organizer of the second season of Read·See the West in 2025, working with 11 other provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in the west.

TheRead·See the West initiative aims to promote reading and cultural exchange across the western regions of China. By highlighting the literary heritage of the west, the event seeks to encourage a deeper appreciation of the region’s diverse cultures and to foster a sense of unity and shared identity among its residents.
