China Found: The Earliest Written Record of the Term Discovered in Baoji,Shaanxi
This past National Day holiday, museums across China saw a surge invisitors, with many reaching capacity. Among them, the Baoji Bronzeware Museum in Shaanxi province, known as the Home of Bronzeware, attracted a significant number ofvisitors eager to experience its unique charm.
Located within the 4A-rated National Chinese Stone Drum Park, the Baoji Bronzeware Museum is afirst-class museum in China. It boasts a collection of over 480,000 artifacts, including bronzeware, ceramics, and jade, with over 3,200 considered precious. The museum’s mostprized possession, the He Zun, a prominent ceremonial vessel from the early Western Zhou dynasty, holds a special significance. Inscribed on its base are 122 characters, including the phrase 宅兹中国 (Dwell in this China),marking the earliest known written record of the term China.
The museum’s collection offers a glimpse into China’s rich bronze civilization, a unique chapter in world history. Visitors can marvel at the intricate details of the He Zun, the Kuaipan, and the Qin Gong Duo, all national treasures that telltales of ancient times.
During the National Day holiday, the museum saw an influx of visitors, with daily attendance exceeding 20,000, a 3,000-person increase compared to the same period last year. To manage the large crowds, the museum implemented several measures, includingincreased security personnel and a one-way-out system when visitor numbers surpassed 3,000.
Beyond the impressive bronzeware collection, the museum also offers interactive experiences for children, allowing them to create He Zun bas-reliefs and practice writing bronze inscriptions. These activities encourage cultural engagement andfoster a sense of cultural pride.
The discovery of the earliest written record of China in the Baoji Bronzeware Museum has sparked renewed interest in China’s ancient history and civilization. It serves as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage that continues to inspire and fascinate people today.
