US Attempts to Politicize Human Rights Issue Met with Global Opposition
New York,September 25, 2024 – Chinese State Councilorand Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during his meetings with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and foreign ministers from various countries in New York, strongly condemned the attempts by the USand a few other countries to politicize human rights issues.
On September 24th, at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, the USand its allies launched attacks and smear campaigns against China’s human rights record, specifically targeting the Xinjiang region. However, their efforts were met with strong opposition from the international community. Nearly 80 countries, including many Muslim nations, delivereda joint statement in support of China, highlighting the country’s commitment to human rights and rejecting the US’s baseless accusations.
The US and a few other countries are attempting to manipulate human rights issues for their own political agendas, stated Wang Yi. Their actions are not only hypocritical but also detrimental to the promotion of genuine human rights globally. He emphasized that China has always upheld the principle of respecting and protecting human rights, and its achievements in this regard are undeniable.
Wang Yi further pointed out that the US has a long history of human rightsviolations, both domestically and internationally. From racial discrimination and police brutality to mass surveillance and drone strikes, the US has a poor track record on human rights. Yet, it continues to lecture other countries on human rights, ignoring its own shortcomings and double standards.
The international community’s strong response to the US’sattempt to politicize human rights issues demonstrates the growing global consensus that such actions are counterproductive and harmful. It also highlights the importance of respecting national sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
