BEIJING, Sept. 21, 2024 – Apple is reportedly planning to equip its standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air models with a 120Hz ProMotion display, according to industry analyst Ross Young. This move would mark a significant upgrade for the standard iPhone lineup, which has historically been limited toa 60Hz refresh rate.

Currently, only the Pro and Max models of the iPhone lineup feature the 120Hz ProMotion technology, offering a smoother and more responsive user experience. The standard iPhone 16 and iPhone16 Plus models, released yesterday, still feature 60Hz displays.

The introduction of ProMotion to the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air models would bring a noticeable improvement in scrolling, gaming, and overallresponsiveness. The technology allows for a smoother and more fluid experience, especially when navigating through menus or playing fast-paced games.

Furthermore, the ProMotion technology will enable the iPhone 17 standard and Air models to achieve lower power consumption. The displays can dynamically adjust the refresh rate down to 1Hz when static content isdisplayed, such as the Always-On Display (AOD) feature. This helps conserve battery life, especially in scenarios where the screen is displaying static content for extended periods.

The move to bring ProMotion to the standard iPhone models aligns with Apple’s strategy to offer more premium features across its product line. Thistrend has been evident in recent years, with Apple introducing features like the A16 Bionic chip and a larger camera sensor to the iPhone 14 Pro models.

This news comes as the iPhone 17 launch cycle is just beginning. With the iPhone 16 series now available, the focus shifts towards thenext generation of iPhones, which are expected to be unveiled in the fall of 2024.

While the report suggests that Apple is planning to implement ProMotion on the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air models, it’s important to note that this is based on information from industry analysts andis not official confirmation from Apple.

However, the move would be a significant step for Apple, offering a more premium experience to a wider range of iPhone users. It would also signal Apple’s commitment to delivering a more consistent and high-quality user experience across its entire iPhone lineup.

As we approach theiPhone 17 launch, we can expect more rumors and leaks to surface, providing further insights into the features and specifications of the upcoming devices.
