Beihai, Guangxi, September 21, 2024 – In a dramatic rescue operation, the South China Sea Rescue Bureau successfully freed a fisherman who was trapped in a capsized fishing boat for over five hours in the Beihai waters of Guangxi Province.
On the morning of September 20, a wooden fishing boat capsized in the Beihai waters, leading to the遇险 of two fishermen. One of them was found trapped inside the overturned vessel.
After receiving the emergency report, the Beihai Branch of the South China Sea Rescue Bureau swiftly launched an operation, deploying the South China Sea Rescue 508 and South China Sea Rescue 302 vessels to the scene.
Upon arriving at the accident site, the rescuers learned that one of the fishermen had been saved by a nearby fishing vessel, but the other was still trapped inside the capsized boat. Divers Hong Mingjin and Liu Yici immediately suited up and dived into the water to conduct a rescue operation.
Hong, a diver, described the challenging conditions they encountered: When we reached the cabin, we found it was very complicated, filled with fishing nets, ropes, and other debris. The trapped person was in a very narrow space, couldn’t swim, and was breathing heavily, showing obvious signs of oxygen deficiency.
At around 1 p.m., the divers successfully extracted the trapped fisherman from the cabin, who had been underwater for over five hours, and safely transferred him to the South China Sea Rescue 508 vessel. They then returned to the Beihai Rescue Base.
The rescue operation, which lasted over five hours, showcased the bravery and professionalism of the rescuers who worked tirelessly to save the fisherman’s life.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by fishermen working in the sea and the crucial role played by rescue teams in such situations.
