Chengdu, China – A breathtaking display of ancient fashion and the vibrant prosperity of the Silk Road came to life at the Jinsha Site Museum in Chengdu, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience the rich history of the ancient trade route.
The event, titled A Fashion Journey Through the Ages: Experiencing the Prosperity of the Ancient Silk Road in Chengdu Jinsha, was a grand spectacle that showcased the splendor of the Silk Road through an immersive experience. The event featured a special performance by veteran guide, Pang Yuanchuan, who dressed as the legendary poet Li Bai, leading attendees on a journey through the thousands of years of the Silk Road’s history.
The Silk Road Elegance Fashion Show was held on September 7th at the Jinsha Site Museum. Attendees followed in the footsteps of Li Bai, traversing the Silk Road from the Yumen Pass to Xinjiang, and experiencing the diverse cultures along the way. The show also presented 12 sets of unique costumes inspired by the Dunhuang murals, accompanied by the grand and majestic atmosphere of the Western Regions, allowing the audience to feel the prosperity of the Silk Road firsthand.
The Splendor of the Silk Road: Xinjiang’s Silk Road Culture Special Exhibition is currently on display at the Jinsha Site Museum. The exhibition features 134 pieces of exquisite artifacts from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Museum, the Chengdu Cultural Relics Archaeological Research Institute, and the Chengdu Shu锦 Museum. Visitors had the opportunity to explore the cultural and social life along the Silk Road, reflecting the prosperity of the era influenced by diverse cultures.
One of the highlights of the exhibition was the replica of a Tang Dynasty sweet, preserved for over a thousand years in the dry climate of Xinjiang. This sweet was on display at the exhibit of artifacts from the Astana Ancient Tombs, and visitors could win a free Hu man, a traditional bread, by reciting poems or idioms containing the character moon in honor of the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.
The event also featured a fashion show with 12 different types of clothing from the Sui, Tang, Late Tang, and Five Dynasties dynasties, all inspired by the murals in the Dunhuang Mogao Caves. The costumes were meticulously reconstructed to reflect the details of the murals, including the colors and patterns of the original paintings.
The event not only offered a glimpse into the beauty of different regional and dynastic clothing but also highlighted the hard work and dedication of the researchers who worked on the reconstruction of these garments. This grand event allowed visitors to witness the fusion of cultures and the artistic expression of the Silk Road.
