Kelowna’s Annual Road Renewal Program to Close Streets Overnight

Kelowna, BC – The City of Kelowna is set to embark on its annual road renewal program, which will involve resurfacing 14 road segments, covering approximately 21 kilometers. This significant infrastructure initiative will necessitate temporary overnight closures on several key Kelowna roads, affecting local traffic and commuters.

Starting from September 10th through to September 19th, the following streets will be affected:

  • Richter Street (between KLO Rd and Lakeshore Rd): Full road closure with a detour via KLO Rd will be in effect from 7 p.m. on September 10th to 6 a.m. on September 15th and 16th.

  • Gordon Drive (between Clement Ave and Bernard Ave): While one lane in each direction will be maintained, there will be overnight closures from 7 p.m. on September 11th and 12th, as well as from 7 p.m. on September 17th to 19th.

  • Bernard Avenue (between Gordon Dr and Richmond St): Full road closure is scheduled from 7 p.m. on September 11th and 12th, and also from 7 p.m. on September 7th to 6 a.m.

The city advises that this schedule is subject to change and encourages the public to stay informed by visiting the City of Kelowna website for the latest updates.

This annual program is part of the city’s commitment to maintaining and improving its road infrastructure. Residents and visitors are advised to plan their travel accordingly, allowing extra time for commutes and considering alternative routes to avoid affected areas.

The road closures are anticipated to cause disruptions to local traffic flow, and while the city works to minimize inconvenience, it also emphasizes the importance of the resurfacing projects for the long-term health and safety of the road network.

For those who need to access these areas during the closure times, it is advisable to follow detour routes provided by the city and to be cautious while navigating through construction zones.
