Beijing, August 29, 2024 – Li Auto, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker known for its extended-range technology, is setting its sights on the high-end EV market with a new lineup of pure electric SUVs slated for launch in the first half of 2025. The company’s founder and CEO, Li Xiang, expressed strong confidence in the new models, highlighting their focus on meeting the needs of family users.
During the company’s second-quarter earnings call, Li Xiang revealed that the upcoming pure electric SUVs will address two keychallenges: designing a compelling and attractive product and establishing a robust charging infrastructure with over 2,000 supercharging stations nationwide.
We are very confident in the competitiveness of our pure electric SUVs, said Li Xiang. We aim to enter the first tier of high-end pure electric products within two years.
Li Auto’s commitment to the pure electric segment is further emphasized by the company’s plans to introduce multiple 800V high-voltage pure electric models in 2025. Ma Donghui, Li Auto’s president and chief engineer, detailed the company’s progress in developing these models.
Research and development is on track, said Ma. We have completed several small-batch prototype production runs and conducted extensive testing, including high-temperature and high-humidity trials, fatigue durability tests, and performance assessments. Our production capacity planning for pure electric vehicles is sufficient to meet anticipated sales demand. The factory for assembling the vehicles is complete, and the four major production lines are currently undergoing installation and debugging. We are also conducting performance tests on the core components that we develop and manufacture in-house.Our external supplier partners are also progressing according to schedule with their capacity planning and development.
Ma added, We are confident in our ability to deliver these pure electric vehicles according to plan.
Spy shots of three Li Auto pure electric SUVs have already surfaced online, suggesting that the models could be named M7,M8, and M9. These SUVs are specifically designed to cater to the needs of families.
By 2025, Li Auto’s product portfolio will include five extended-range models, one flagship MEGA model, and five pure electric models. This ambitious expansion strategy reflects the company’s determination to become a leading player in the rapidly evolving Chinese EV market.
Li Auto’s move into the pure electric segment comes at a time when Chinese EV makers are facing increasing competition from both domestic and international players. The company’s focus on high-end models and its commitment to building a robust charginginfrastructure could give it a competitive edge in this crowded market.
The company’s confidence in its new pure electric SUVs is bolstered by its strong track record in the extended-range vehicle segment. Li Auto’s current models have been well-received by consumers, and the company has established a strong reputation forquality and reliability.
As Li Auto enters the pure electric market, it will be interesting to see how its new models perform against established players like Tesla, NIO, and XPeng. The company’s success will depend on its ability to deliver on its promises of high-quality, family-oriented vehiclesand a seamless charging experience.
