BTS Member Suga Apologizes Again for DUI Incident, Facing Potential License Revocation
Seoul, South Korea – Suga, a member of theK-pop group BTS, has issued a second apology for driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol, expressing deep remorse for his actions and the disappointment hehas caused fans and the public.
In a handwritten letter posted on the fan community platform Weverse on August 25th, Suga acknowledged his mistakeand stated, I deeply apologize for causing hurt and disappointment to fans and everyone because of my wrong actions. I forgot my responsibility to repay everyone’s love with actual actions and made a serious mistake.
Suga admitted to driving theelectric scooter on the sidewalk after consuming alcohol on the evening of August 6th. He also apologized for the confusion caused by his initial apology on August 7th, which he acknowledged was rushed and lacked proper consideration.
Ishould have thought and handled the situation more carefully, but I failed to do so, Suga wrote. I am deeply sorry for causing trouble to everyone who cares about me. I will strive to avoid making the same mistake again and live with a repentant heart.
The musician expressed particular regret for the impact his actionshave had on BTS’s reputation and the trust he has built with his fellow members. I am deeply sorry for leaving a huge blemish on the precious memories between the members and fans, and for making the members who have always trusted me go through a difficult time, he wrote.
Suga also addressed the fansdirectly, acknowledging the depth of their disappointment and the inadequacy of words to heal the hurt he has caused. I am deeply sorry to the fans who have always given me their love, he stated. I know that no words can heal the hurt and disappointment that fans have suffered, so I am deeply regretful andreflect on my actions with a heavy heart every day.
Suga concluded his letter by stating his commitment to accepting any punishment, criticism, or reproach with humility. He also reiterated his sincere apology for the disappointment he has caused.
The incident occurred on August 6th when Suga was found driving an electric scooter onthe street in Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul. He reportedly fell while driving, and police investigations revealed his blood alcohol content to be 0.227%, exceeding the legal limit for driving in South Korea (0.08%).
Suga initially claimed to have only consumed one beer butlater faced criticism for attempting to downplay the severity of his actions by referring to the electric scooter as an electric skateboard in his initial apology.
On August 23rd, Suga visited the Yongsan Police Station to be questioned about the DUI incident. Police are expected to revoke his driver’s license and mayconsider further punishment based on the investigation findings.
