Content:

Shanghai is actively developing its low-altitude economy, aiming to reach a core industry scale of over 500 billionyuan within the next three years. The recently released “Action Plan for High-Quality Development of Shanghai’s Low-Altitude Economy Industry (2024-2027)” outlines this goal and proposes a series of development measures.

Shanghai enjoys unique advantages, boasting the headquarters of China’s Commercial Aircraft Corporation (COMAC) and 70% of China’s civil aviationprofessionals. It also houses approximately 50% of China’s leading eVTOL aircraft innovation companies. These strengths provide a solid foundation for Shanghai’s low-altitude economic development.

To achieve its target, Shanghai will prioritize the developmentof unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft industries. The action plan outlines Shanghai’s ambition to establish a manufacturing capacity for over 200 industrial-grade UAVs and ton-level cargo eVTOLs, as well as over 100 ton-level passenger eVTOLs annually.

In the UAV sector, Shanghai companies are actively developing and applying new technologies. For instance, Fengyu ShunTu UAV Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. has independently developed the “Fengzhou 90” logistics drone, capable of carrying 10 kg of cargo for120 km and 20 kg for 65 km. This drone is expected to be deployed in various fields, including healthcare, express delivery, emergency response, and inspection.

In the eVTOL sector, Shanghai Yufeng Future Aviation Technology Co., Ltd.’s eVTOL aircraft has incorporated domestically producedcarbon fiber composite materials. A company representative expressed optimism about the future of Shanghai’s low-altitude economy.

To foster the development of its low-altitude economy, Shanghai will also strengthen infrastructure construction, improve airspace management, establish relevant policies and regulations, and actively cultivate an industry ecosystem.

Experts believe that Shanghai’s low-altitude economic development holds vast potential, offering new opportunities for urban development. These include enhancing urban logistics efficiency, promoting tourism, and improving urban emergency response systems.

The development of Shanghai’s low-altitude economy will not only drive its own economic transformation and upgrading but also set a benchmark for China’slow-altitude economic development, providing new insights for future urban development.
