**Guangzhou, August 22 (Xinhua)** – The Guangzhou Arbitration Commission (GAC) has seen a significant increasein the value of claims in foreign-related cases during the first seven months of 2024. The GAC received over 450 foreign-related cases, with the total value of claims exceeding 4 billion yuan, nearing the total for the entire year of 2023 and representing a 65% year-on-year increase. This data indicates a continuous risein the GAC’s influence in international commercial arbitration, with its arbitration business exhibiting robust growth.

The GAC’s arbitration business continues to grow at a high quality. From January to July 2024, the value of claimsin received cases continued to grow rapidly. Over 50 cases involved claims exceeding 100 million yuan, a 24% year-on-year increase. This growth trend can be attributed to the GAC’s proactive efforts in promoting internationalization in arbitration and continuously deepening the application of the “GuangzhouModel.”

The “Guangzhou Model” refers to a “3+N” model for international commercial arbitration, which uses three major legal systems as a framework, combined with N regional characteristic rules, and layered with the advantages of remote hearing technology. In recent years, the GAC has used the “Guangzhou Model”as a lever to actively promote internationalization in arbitration, achieving significant results.

Firstly, the GAC has jointly established the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Arbitration Alliance, coordinating the effective alignment of rules and mechanisms in the Bay Area. This initiative effectively promotes cooperation among arbitration institutions within the Bay Area, providinga more convenient and efficient platform for resolving cross-border commercial disputes.

Secondly, the GAC has comprehensively promoted the implementation of the Guangzhou hearing model abroad. Following Russia, Singapore, and Thailand, the GAC has facilitated the adoption of the “Guangzhou Model” for case filing by the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board. It hasalso promoted the application of the “Guangzhou Model” by Hong Kong and Macao arbitration institutions in a number of foreign-related arbitration cases. This move expands the application of the “Guangzhou Model” globally, offering new options for international commercial arbitration.

Furthermore, the GAC continues to leverage technology, creating a benchmark forintelligent arbitration. The GAC has partnered with the L-Code team at South China University of Technology to deeply integrate cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology with arbitration work, developing an intelligent arbitration system that integrates seven intelligent subsystems. This system, by combining the cross-language and cross-jurisdictional advantages of artificial intelligence, integratesinternational legal and case data, empowering intelligent and internationalized dispute resolution.

Data shows that the GAC’s internationalization in arbitration is steadily increasing. In 2023, foreign arbitrators handled over 380 cases, a year-on-year increase of approximately 53%. Cases with both partiesfrom outside China saw a 1.2-fold increase year-on-year. These figures demonstrate the GAC’s growing influence in the field of international commercial arbitration, with its arbitration business exhibiting a robust growth trend.

The GAC’s successful experience provides a reference for other arbitration institutions and offers new ideas forpromoting the development of China’s arbitration industry. In the future, the GAC will continue to deepen the “Guangzhou Model,” continuously enhance its internationalization level, and make greater contributions to promoting China’s economic development and international economic and trade cooperation.
