据海豚馆的工作人员介绍，“灵宝儿”的母亲“娜雅”是一只18岁的宽吻海豚，出生于西班牙，两年前远渡重洋来到中国海南。在熟悉了当地环境后，“娜雅”成功受孕并分娩，产下了小海豚“灵宝儿”。
满月后的“灵宝儿”跟随母亲在水中游弋，动作流畅，显示出其灵巧敏捷的特点。面对来访者，“灵宝儿”好奇地频频打量，显示出活泼胆子大的性格。海豚馆的馆长由英杰表示，“灵宝儿”的身体状况健康，食欲良好，为了保证母体热量摄入、奶水充足，除日常喂食的鲱鱼外，还给“娜雅”加餐鲐鲅鱼和动物内脏制成的明胶，以便同时满足小海豚的成长所需。
