News content:
Singular Computing, a US-based company, has recently filed a lawsuit against Google, accusing it of infringing on two of its AI processor-related technical patents and seeking $1.67 billion in damages. The company’s computer scientist, Joseph Bates, alleges that Google copied his technology and applied it to AI development.

According to Bates’ legal team, Google and Bates had discussed potential collaboration opportunities from 2010 to 2014, during which Bates shared his AI-supporting chip and its potential in driving AI processing. However, without obtaining Bates’ consent, Google is accused of copying his innovative achievement and applying the technology to develop Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), which are used in various services including Google Translate, Google Search, Gmail, and more.

Singular Computing believes that Google’s actions have severely infringed upon their patent rights and has thus filed the lawsuit. The case is currently in the trial stage.
