At the gathering, Taiwanese ceramic sculptor Yuching余 shared his experience of introducing Taiwan’s charcoal-fired ceramic craft to Hangzhou. The gathering revolved around the theme of “water is the mother of tea, and the vessel is the father of tea.” Participants explored the mysteries of pairing different types of tea with appropriate vessels. Yuching explained why a guan碗is used for drinking West Lake Longjing tea, while charcoal-fired pots or purple sand pots are commonly used for Taiwanese oolong tea. He pointed out that the pairing of tea vessels and tea types not only affects the taste of the tea but also embodies the profound connotation of tea culture.
