Apple Vision Pro 2 Expected in Late 2025 or Early 2026: Gurman

Apple is reportedly planning to release its second-generationApple Vision Pro headset between fall 2025 and spring 2026, according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. This timeline aligns with previous market predictions.

Last week, supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicated that Apple has significantly delayed the launch of a lower-priced Apple Vision headset, focusing instead on thesecond-generation Apple Vision Pro slated for release in 2025. Kuo claims the release of the lower-priced headset has been pushed back to 2027 or later.

The second-generation Vision Pro is expectedto feature a significant performance boost, upgrading from the M2 chip used in the first generation to the upcoming M5 chip. Apple opted for the then-latest M2 chip for the initial Vision Pro release, but with the rapid emergence of M3and M4 chips, the $2,999 Vision Pro’s chip appears somewhat outdated. The second-generation Vision Pro is expected to receive the M5 chip around the same time as the first Macs equipped with the M5, avoiding a similar issue.

In terms of design, Gurman suggests that theApple Vision Pro 2 will likely resemble the current generation. He states, Apple is cooking up a few ideas for its Vision headset line, but at least one version of the second-generation Vision Pro — assuming it ships — will look almost identical to the current design. The big changes are on the inside, including the processor upgrade.

Furthermore, Apple recently introduced new Mac external display options in visionOS 2.2, including widescreen and ultrawide displays. Gurman highlights Mac ultrawide displays as the first true killer app for Vision Pro. Apple needs to add more compelling features on the software front to maintain the Apple Vision Pro’s competitiveness in the market.

The release of the Apple Vision Pro 2 signifies Apple’s continued commitment to the augmented and virtual reality market. The company’s focus on improving performance and software features suggests a desire to establish a stronger foothold in this rapidly evolving technological landscape.
