Kremlin Reiterates Unwavering Stance on Ukraine, Dismissing Any Concessions
Moscow, November 8, 2024 – Amidstgrowing international pressure and ongoing negotiations, the Kremlin has firmly asserted that Russia remains steadfast in its objectives regarding the Ukraine conflict, dismissing any possibility of concessions.
Following President Vladimir Putin’s statement on November 7th expressing willingness to engage in talks with newly elected US President Donald Trump, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov wasquestioned by reporters about potential changes in Russia’s demands concerning the Ukrainian situation. Peskov categorically stated, The President has never spoken about changing the goals of the special military operation. On the contrary, he has consistently emphasized that the objectivesremain unchanged.
Putin outlined his conditions for initiating peace talks in June, reiterating his unwavering stance against Ukraine’s potential NATO membership. In his recent statement, he further emphasized that the borders of Ukraine should be determined by the peopleresiding in specific territories, which we refer to as historical territories, advocating for recognition of Russia’s sovereignty over the four annexed Ukrainian regions in the east and south, along with Crimea.
Ukraine, however, has consistently rejected Russia’s demands, insisting on the return of its territories and the withdrawal of Russian troops.
This unwavering stance from the Kremlin underscores the complex and intractable nature of the conflict, leaving the prospect of a negotiated settlement shrouded in uncertainty. With both sides holding firm to their positions, the international community faces a daunting task in finding a path towards peace.
