North Korea Tightens Security Around Kim Jong-un Amidst Perceived Assassination Risk

Seoul, South Korea – North Korea has significantly ramped up security measuressurrounding Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un, according to South Korean intelligence officials, citing a heightened awareness of potential assassination threats.

This revelation came to light on October29th during a parliamentary briefing by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to the National Assembly’s Intelligence Committee. The NIS reported that Kim Jong-un’s public appearances have increased by over 60% compared to the same period last year, a move attributed to the perceived security concerns.

To mitigate these risks, North Korean authorities are employing a range of countermeasures. These include deploying communicationjamming vehicles to disrupt potential communication channels used by would-be assassins and exploring the acquisition of drone detection equipment.

Furthermore, the NIS highlighted a shift in North Korea’s propaganda strategy, with the regime abandoning the use of the Juche calendar, which commemorated the birth of Kim Il-sung, the country’s founder and Kim Jong-un’s grandfather. This move, according to the NIS, is aimed at diminishing the influence of past leaders and further solidifying Kim Jong-un’s personal cult of personality.

The NIS also revealedthat Kim Jong-un’s second daughter, Kim Ju-ae, has seen her public profile rise in recent months, suggesting a potential grooming for a future leadership role.

The heightened security measures and the shift in propaganda underscore the regime’s perceived vulnerability and its ongoing efforts to maintain Kim Jong-un’sgrip on power. While the specific nature of the perceived threats remains unclear, the intelligence report highlights the volatile political landscape within North Korea and its potential impact on regional stability.
